# XP & Coins

How to earn network XP, level up, use boosters, and collect Coins through gameplay and competitions.

Network XP tracks your progression across PvPTiers. Play your favourite modes, complete objectives, and earn rewards as your network level grows. Coins are a shared network currency, with gameplay rewards from level-ups, Royale podium finishes, and official competitions.

{% hint style="info" %}
**One network, shared progression.** Your network XP, level, and Coin balance carry between modes and survive SMP season resets. They are separate from vanilla enchanting XP, SMP Money, and Valor.
{% endhint %}

## Your progression at a glance

| Feature             | How it works                                                     |
| ------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Starting level      | Level 1 with 0 XP                                                |
| Online-time XP      | 1 base XP for every 4 minutes connected                          |
| Gameplay XP | Additional rewards for eligible actions, objectives, and results |
| Next level          | Advancing from level L requires 100 × L XP                       |
| Level-up Coins      | Advancing from L to L + 1 awards 3 × L Coins                     |
| Maximum level | 10,000, with further XP contributing towards overflow rewards |
| Check your progress | Use `/level`                                                     |

## Earning XP while online

Every connected player earns **1 base XP per 4 minutes**, equivalent to **15 XP per hour**. This continues across game modes, lobbies, queues, spawn areas, Vault visits, spectating, and AFK time. There is no rank requirement, inactivity timeout, or daily cap on this base time reward.

Your progress towards the next time reward carries through server transfers and reconnects. **Offline time does not earn XP.**

{% hint style="success" %}
**Playing earns more.** Online-time XP continues alongside the gameplay rewards below. Simply being connected does not qualify you for completion, victory, placement, or other action rewards that require participation.
{% endhint %}

## Levelling up and earning Coins

The XP needed for the next level increases with your current level:

**XP to advance from level L = 100 × L**\
**Coins for that completed level-up = 3 × L**

For example, level 1 → 2 needs 100 XP and awards 3 Coins. Level 10 → 11 needs 1,000 XP and awards 30 Coins. The larger Coin reward comes with a proportionally larger XP requirement, not a separate high-level multiplier.

Coins are awarded **when you finish a level**, not continuously as XP arrives. Extra XP is never discarded: a large reward can carry you through several levels, paying each completed level-up.

### Level milestones

The total XP needed to reach level L is **50 × L × (L − 1)**.

| Level reached | Total XP required | Coins for this level-up | Total Coins earned from levelling |
| ------------- | ----------------: | ----------------------: | --------------------------------: |
| 1             |                 0 |                       — |                                 0 |
| 2             |               100 |                       3 |                                 3 |
| 5             |             1,000 |                      12 |                                30 |
| 10            |             4,500 |                      27 |                               135 |
| 20            |            19,000 |                      57 |                               570 |
| 25            |            30,000 |                      72 |                               900 |
| 50            |           122,500 |                     147 |                             3,675 |
| 100           |           495,000 |                     297 |                            14,850 |

The final column assumes a fresh account earning every level naturally. It shows cumulative level-up rewards, not your current balance after spending or other rewards.

<details>

<summary>Example: gaining several levels at once</summary>

You are level 2 with **150 / 200 XP** towards level 3 and receive **400 XP**.

You finish level 2 and earn **6 Coins**, then finish level 3 and earn **9 Coins**. You end at **level 4 with 50 / 400 XP**, having earned **15 Coins** from the two level-ups.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens at level 10,000?</summary>

Your level stays at the maximum, but eligible XP still contributes towards rewards. Every additional **1,000,000 XP** awards **30,000 Coins**. Use `/level` to check your overflow progress.

</details>

## Gameplay XP by mode

All amounts below are **base XP before an applicable booster**. Online-time XP continues separately. Select a mode to see its rewards and eligibility rules.

### Combat and bounties

| Action                 | Base XP | Requirements                                                                                                         |
| ---------------------- | ------: | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Arena kill             |       5 | An eligible player kill                                                                                              |
| Assist | 1 | Deal at least 20% of player-caused damage in the victim's final 15 seconds; the killer cannot also receive assist XP |
| Kill a bounty target | 100 | Additional to the ordinary kill reward |
| Survive a bounty | 100 | Survive the bounty period with at least 5 eligible kills while holding it |
| Win an easy chat game | 10 | First correct answer |
| Win a medium chat game |      20 | First correct answer                                                                                                 |
| Win a hard chat game   |      40 | First correct answer                                                                                                 |

### Killstreak bonuses

| Consecutive eligible kills | Bonus XP at this milestone |
| -------------------------------------------- | -------------------------: |
| 5                                            |                         10 |
| 10                                           |                         25 |
| 15                                           |                         40 |
| 20                                           |                         60 |
| Each further 10 kills: 30, 40, 50, and so on |                         60 |

Each milestone pays once per streak and adds to the earlier milestones and ordinary kill XP. A 10-kill streak therefore earns **35 bonus XP** from the 5- and 10-kill milestones. Only eligible, non-farmed kills advance a streak.

### Events and guild wars

| Event result              | Base XP | Recipient                                            |
| ------------------------- | ------: | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| King of the Hill victory | 250 | Each eligible player on the winning side |
| Last Man Standing victory |     250 | Winner                                               |
| Escalating Chaos victory  |     250 | Winner                                               |
| Weapon Roulette victory | 250 | Player with the most kills |
| Infection victory | 250 | Player with the most kills on the winning side |
| Juggernaut | 500 | The surviving Juggernaut, or the player who kills it |
| Guild war victory         |     100 | Each eligible winning-team player                    |

For team-event rewards, participate for at least **50% of your available event time** and make a combat or objective contribution.

Guild wars must be at least **3v3**. To receive victory XP, play at least **50% of the war** and record a kill or qualifying assist. Only the first win against the same opposing guild in a rolling 24-hour period awards victory XP. Cancelled wars and forfeits before combat starts do not award victory XP. Eligible kill, assist, and online-time rewards are separate.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Duels & Cloud" %}

### Public-queue matches

Ranked and unranked public queues use the same XP values. Match rewards are paid **once per completed match, not per round**.

| Result                     |                                              Base XP |
| -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------: |
| Complete an eligible match | 8 for each participating player, including the loser |
| Win that match | +12, giving the winner 20 match XP in total |
| Win an approved tournament | +500, in addition to eligible match rewards |

Kills, killstreaks, round wins, and other actions within a duel do not give separate action XP. Queue time still earns the shared online-time reward.

Eligible Cloud Duels follow the same match-result rules when participation and results are confirmed. Being AFK or not participating earns online-time XP only, not completion or win XP.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Private matches are different.** Direct `/duel` challenges, custom or party matches, and private `/smpduel` matches do not award additional action or result XP. The normal online-time reward continues.
{% endhint %}
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## XP boosters

Boosters increase both network online-time XP and eligible gameplay XP.

| Booster | XP multiplier | Duration after activation |
| ------- | ------------: | ------------------------- |
| Tier 2  |          1.5× | 24 elapsed hours          |
| Tier 1  |            2× | 24 elapsed hours          |

A voucher's timer starts only when you **manually activate it**. Unredeemed vouchers do not start counting down. Once active, the timer continues while you are offline, AFK, in a lobby, or spectating. Server downtime pauses the timer.

Only the **highest applicable multiplier** is used, with a maximum of **2×**; multipliers do not stack. You cannot activate another personal XP booster while one is already active. An active boost's timer still runs when a stronger multiplier takes precedence.

Boosters do not multiply vanilla enchanting XP, SMP Money production, or Valor. They do not change the Coins awarded for a particular level-up: they help you reach that level-up sooner.

### Official competitions and leaderboards

Official competition rewards use confirmed final results. Entries are free; the competition's eligibility rules still apply.

| Competition | Coin rewards by placing | When awarded |

<summary>How FFA Seasonal Guild Top Coins are divided</summary>

The first-, second-, and third-place guilds receive **300, 200, and 100 Coins respectively**, allocated across each guild's top 10 killers at payout. Those amounts are guild-wide pools, not the reward for every member. The guild competition is separate from the FFA individual kill leaderboard.

| Kill rank within the guild | 1st-place guild | 2nd-place guild | 3rd-place guild |
| -------------------------- | --------------: | --------------: | --------------: |
| 1st                        |              75 |              29 |              15 |

## Checking your progress

Use **`/level`** for your network level and XP progress. Network progression also appears in lobby XP bars and FFA spawn areas. During combat, progression notifications may wait until the match or fight ends.

SMP and live Royale preserve the vanilla XP bar for enchanting and repairs; network progress is shown separately on the scoreboard and in `/level`. Duels preserve the match interface, with progression available after the match or through `/level`. Coin displays may be hidden during Cloud Duels and FFA guild wars to leave room for match information.

## Frequently asked questions

<details>

<summary>Do I earn XP while AFK or waiting in a queue?</summary>

Yes. The normal **1 base XP per 4 connected minutes** continues, including AFK and queue time. Action, completion, victory, and placement rewards still require their own participation conditions. Offline time earns no XP.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why did I gain XP without receiving Coins?</summary>

Ordinary level-up Coins are paid when you complete a level, not for every XP gain. Check your next-level progress in `/level`. Separate competition and Royale podium prizes have their own reward conditions.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can a private duel earn match XP?</summary>

Direct challenges, custom or party matches, and private SMP duels earn online-time XP but no extra action or result XP. Eligible public-queue matches use the completion and win rewards in the Duels tab above.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What should I do if a reward appears to be missing?</summary>

Check the relevant participation requirements and whether the match has finished. A reward shown as pending is not yet available to spend. For help, visit [Support](/support.md) and provide your Minecraft username, mode, approximate time, and relevant screenshots. Never include passwords or account tokens.
